FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How old are the children available for international adoption?
Children from 1 to 16 are available for adoption.
Are the children healthy?
Healthy children ages 6 to 16 and sibling groups of all ages.
Children 0-5 have special needs. Special needs can be mild such as Cleft Palate to more severe such as Spina Bifida.
Do I need to be an American citizen to adopt with Grace International?
One parent needs to be a U.S. citizen to adopt.
If you are living outside of the U.S., Grace International can facilitate your adoption in the country in which you reside. Please contact Grace International for more information.
Are there requirements for the health of the adopting parents?
Yes. Prospective adoptive parents (PAPs) will need to pass a physical to adopt internationally. The physician’s medical form is included in your home study and dossier. International countries will not consider PAPs with infectious diseases or psychiatric illnesses.
It is very important to disclose any health issues with Grace International to avoid issues with your adoption.
Can singles adopt?
At this time singles can not adopt from Ukraine.
Grace International does process home studies for singles who are adopting domestically.
How long does an international adoption take?
Adoptions average 9-12 months from initial application with Grace International to bringing your child home.
How are adoption home studies with Grace International unique?
Grace International Adoption Agency provides thorough, efficient, and personable home studies. We attempt to make the home study process stress-free! You will receive individual attention and a home study completed as quickly as possible.
All home studies are expedited at no additional cost.
How long is an adoption home study valid?
An adoption home study is valid for 12 months.
Can adoptive parents use a home study completed by Grace International to adopt a child born in another state?
Yes, home studies completed by Grace International Adoption Agency are valid for adoption in all 50 states.
How long does it take to complete a home study with Grace International?
The length of time it takes to complete a home study is determined by how long it takes for a family to complete their paperwork and gather their supporting documentation. Grace International considers every home study to be a priority and will complete the family homes study as soon as possible after your documents and back ground checks are in our office. A home study can be completed in as little as 6 weeks but the time frame is dependent on the family’s motivation to complete paperwork.
How many post-placement visits does Grace International require?
Post-placement visits are determined by the international country you are adopting from, the placing agency and/or the state in which you adopt.
Grace International Adoption Agency will follow all requirements for your adoption.
If Grace International completes my home study, do you also have to complete my post-placement visits?
Families are not obligated to use Grace International Adoption Agency to complete post placements. However, families usually use the same home study agency to complete their post-placement visits and reports.
What does your home study social workers look for in a home and a family when they visit the adopting families home?
We complete a home safety checklist. We gather information that is necessary to conduct the home study process. We interview the prospective adoptive parents together and separately. We discuss family life, history from childhood through adulthood and motivations for adoption. It is important to be truthful and honest throughout the home study process. We want you to know that we are not in your home to judge you but to determine if you are eligible to adopt.
What is some advice you can give about preparing for the home study?
We ask families to be themselves.
We want families to feel relaxed and enjoy the beginning of their adoption journey.
The home study process is to evaluate if you meet the criteria to be an parent and your home is a safe environment.
We are not in your home to check if there are dishes in your sink or if there is dust on the furniture.
We will guide you through the process so their are no surprises.
Does Grace International work with families who are with a different placement agency?
Yes. Grace International works with all other adoption agencies.
We write both Domestic and International home studies.
We also provide counseling throughout the home study process and refer to adoption education sites for continuing education.
Grace International is Hague Accredited.
Is Grace International Hague accredited?
Grace International holds full Hague accreditation. We have been Hague accredited since 2008.
